THE GREAT MOUSE EAR SEARCH: Mouseketeer Ears by Main Street Darling

I started the GREAT MOUSE EAR SEARCH because if there is one thing a true Disney Fanatic can never get enough of, is mouse ears!  Many of us would wear them every day if we could!  I love bringing you some of the best Mouse Ear Designers I can find.   Occasionally, I come across a designer that is so original and so amazing, it floors me!   Main Street Darling is one of those designers!  I love that they design original Mouseketeer style ear hats!  These are great for all genders, but let's face it, our male Disney fanatics do not get as many choices for Mouse Ears and these are THE BEST FOR BOYS I HAVE SEEN!!!!  Yes, I said it!  THE BEST!  My 13 year old, was IN LOVE with these ears!   So cool enough even for the teenagers!   He actually left them on a bench and someone took them they were so cool, so we will be having to order another pair soon!  Danielle, the head designer is very sweet to work with!  She can do custom work if you are interested in that as well!   And as most designers, she does the headbands as well, so be sure to check out her Etsy shop at https://www.etsy.com/shop/MainStreetDarling

HOW DID YOU GET INTO MAKING MOUSE EARS?
I used to go to Walt Disney World all the time when I lived in Florida and I always wanted to wear ears, but the parks only carry so many. I ended up customizing a pair with my roommate at the time for our costumes for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party and it kind of took off from there. I started making my own ears for special events, like Star Wars Weekends and Dapper Day, then I realized this was something other people also wanted. I know there is a huge market on Etsy for custom mouse ears, but I decided to throw my hat into the ring and see what happens! So far it has been overwhelmingly positive and this has been a great creative outlet for me. Plus, it doesn't really get better than making people happy with the things you create. Hopefully, I can keep doing this for a while longer and continue making new, exciting ears for everyone to enjoy!

DO YOU HAND MAKE EVERYTHING?
I make almost everything by hand! The only items I purchase are the headbands and ear hats. As for the ears, bows, and any embellishments, I do all the sewing, stuffing, and painting, you name it! It makes it so much easier to customize everything for each individual customer who visits my shop.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST POPULAR SELLING ITEM?
My most popular item is actually a tie between my Darth Maul inspired ear hat and my Pearl Mouse Ear Headband. Both are embellished, one has handmade clay horns and the other had tons of sparkle!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ITEM TO MAKE AND WHY?
I absolutely love making the ear hats. It gives me an opportunity to really understand that character and make something that I think that character would want to wear. I specifically love making the Darth Maul inspired hat because that was one of the first hats I ever made for myself and I made it for Star Wars Weekends when Ray Park, who plays Darth Maul in Episode I, was visiting. I ended up making two pairs, one for me and one for him as a gift, and my pair is autographed by him. It was such a special moment for me that whenever I make that hat for someone else, I just hope they can have a magical moment with their hat that I send them.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU COME UP WITH NEW DESIGNS?
I am constantly coming up with new designs! I have been focusing a lot on headbands right now and I'm about to release a line of character bow ties, but I am hoping to get some new hat designs out there soon!

DO YOU HAVE ANY FUN OR TOUCHING CUSTOMER STORIES YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH US?
One of my favorite things in this world is Star Wars and Walt Disney World just hosted their inaugural Star Wars Half Marathon - Dark Side weekend. Since I have a lot of Dark Side hats in my shop, I got a few orders from runners looking to complete their running costumes. I ended up hand delivering one to a runner and had a few others out on the course. I was also running in the races, so to be on the course looking out for my ears was a big moment for me. I ship off ears all the time, but to actually see people in them and be a part of such a big weekend was absolutely amazing!

HOW OFTEN DO YOU GET TO GO TO DISNEY?

I am an Annual Passholder to both coasts, so I would say I go pretty often! Living in Southern California, I get to go to Disneyland at least once a week. However, Florida is my home and I love visiting my friends there so I go as often as I can even if that is only two or three times a year.

WHAT IS THE ONE THING YOU HAVE TO DO EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU VISIT DISNEY?
I have to get a Mint Julep at Disneyland! It's not a complete day unless I get a Mint Julep in New Orleans Square! I can promise you, I have gone into the park just to get a Mint Julep and left after that. Other than a Mint Julep, I have to see Mickey and the Magical Map. Some days it isn't showing, but I think that show is so fun and inspiring that I go as often as I can.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE DISNEY MEMORY EVER?
My favorite Disney memory is probably my wedding last year. I got married in the Wedding Pavilion, which has been a lifelong dream of mine. I remember being little riding the monorail past the Pavilion and telling my dad "One day, I'm going to get married there," and he would just respond "Yeah, ok sure, Danielle." I got lucky and my husband is a big Disney fan and he thought the same thing when he was little, so we planned the perfect wedding with some Disney magic and had the best time. I made a special pair of ears to match my dress and really just felt like a real life Disney Princess the whole time. It really doesn't get better than enjoying Disney in your very own princess ballgown and Prince Charming by your side!

WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE DISNEY CHARACTER AND WHY?
My favorite Disney Character is Merida. I've always loved the more independent characters, especially the princesses, like Belle and Ariel, but Merida takes it to a whole new level. She is in charge of her fate and she isn't afraid of going after what she wants. Every day I strive to be brave like her and keep in mind whats important, like my family, and to take control of my future and my happiness. She is a huge inspiration for me!
