NEW QUICK SERVICE DINING PRE-PAID CARD FOR WDW Neighboring Resorts!

I have some big and exciting news to share with you all!  A new way to save money on your Walt Disney World Vacation Trip (because who does not love that!?!?).

Many people do not realize there are many options for booking a Walt Disney World Vacation besides the on site resorts.  There are also the following options:
  • Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels
  • Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World
  • Disney Springs Resort Area Hotels
  • Walt Disney Good Neighbor Hotels
Previously, when people booked with these hotels, they missed out on the perk of being able to purchase the dining plan (if you are a regular reader, you know I am a HUGE fan of the dining plan!).  Here is the exciting news, although you still are not able to book the dining plan with these hotels, they are offering a new option for a limited time that will still save you money on food!

If you book a vacation package at one of these hotels that includes a minimum 3 day ticket, is booked between now and  April 1, 2017 for travel dates between September 26, 2016 to April 4, 2017.... you now have the option to also purchase a pre-paid Disney Quick Service Dining Card!

For each day of theme park admission, adults in the party will receive $40 and children will receive $15 on their Quick Service Dining Card.  However, and here is the exciting part, guest will only be charged $36 per adult/per day and $12.50 per child/per day!!!!   So adults with a 3 day ticket, will receive $120 for only $105!  I love it when people can save money at Disney!!!!

The Quick Service Dining Cards can be redeemed at select Quick Service Dining locations in food carts in the Walt Disney World Theme Parks,Water Parks, Disney Springs, and Disney Resort hotels.

You also have the option to upgrade your card up to a maximum of $400 for adults, and $150 for children as long as every person on that package upgrades for the same equivalent value.

Disney Touches at the Local Children's Hospital

I truly hope that none of you have to visit Arnold Palmer Hospital (the local children's hospital in Orlando) while on vacation at Walt Disney World!  Nobody ever likes being at the hospital!

However, for those who have had to make that trip, Disney has done something there to add a little bit of their special magic!  All over the hospital you can find special touches of Disney!   I found all of these amazing statues and figures in the main lobby and thought you would love to see it for yourself!

I can remember as a kid when they first built this castle being fascinated with it!

I love that Jaq and Gus Gus are hidden on the castle!!!

Tinkerbell is also hidden high above near the castle!

Notice the cool Pirate Ship Playground outside behind Mickey and Pluto?

Peter Pan!

The Seven Dwarfs!

Best Friends Breakfast featuring Lilo & Stitch at Ohana!

On our last Disney World vacation, our number one Dining Reservation I was determined to get was the Best Friends Breakfast featuring Lilo & Stitch at the Ohana Restaurant inside the Polynesian Resort. (If you are on the Dining Plan, remember most character meals count as just 1 table service credit, the biggest perk of using the plan in my opinion!  We personally saved a ton of money and avoided standing in line to meet a ton of characters, also saving time!).   All of our kids LOVE the movie Lilo & Stitch.   It also has a huge meaning for us being a blended family, we often use the Ohana Quote from the movie:  "Ohana means family.  Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten."   We are such fans, we named our Travel Agency business after it, Ohana Adventures Travel (even a hidden stitch in the logo!).  I had also read and heard so many other fans rave about their breakfast!   So it truly was on our absolutely must do list!

Let me tell you, we were not disappointed in the least!   In fact, all 4 children agreed this was one of the best meals we had!  The atmosphere there is amazing!   It is so relaxing.   All of the servers refer to themselves as Aunts and Uncles.   You truly feel like you are at some tropical home with your relatives!   They serve the food family style, meaning it is still all you can eat, but they bring out platters to serve yourselves from at your table.
The food!   OH MY STARS!  THE FOOD!!!!!!!!!!   I am drooling writing this actually.  It was the best meal I think we had the entire trip!   You can access the menu by clicking HERE.

I do not even know that I can tell you what my favorite food there was, it seriously was all so good!  I mean, you cant ever beat all you can eat bacon of course!  Mmmmm.  And I am super partial to Mickey Waffles (seriously, I act like a kid at how excited and happy those make me!  LOL).  The potatoes, the cinnamon Hawaiian bread, the sausage, I mean seriously, it was all so delicious!!!

Lillie was crazy about the "Stitch Juice".   Everyone was loving it actually!  Pretty much, its a mixture of passion fruit, orange, and guava juices.   Grown up tip!   You can order it as a mimosa!  I didn't realize this until we were leaving, but I am excited to try it the next visit!)   If you are craving it, I have heard the POG juice on Amazon (click HERE) is pretty similar!
Lillie, like all of us, ate a ton and was so stuffed afterwards LOL

The character experiences at this restaurant were AMAZING!  I don't know if it was because we very much felt relaxed and at home, but we felt like the interactions were longer and more personal!  Like a lot of the other character dining experiences, they did do a Character parade where the kids can get instruments, and parade around the restaurant with the characters!

I LOVE my personalized autograph tote bag by threeKdesigns!

Over all, I think every single person should do this Character Dining Experience at least once!  I know this will be the one we do every single visit without question!  It is also the meal I most recommend to every single one of my clients!

Disneyland: The Perfect Place for Disney Die Hards! (a report from my friend Amelia)

So as much as I live Disney, I have only ever been to Disney World in Florida!  It is certainly at the top of my list to go to Disneyland in California, but I also know that park is run very differently from Disney World.  A lot of my clients from Ohana Adventures Travel get easily overwhelmed by all the differences, as do many people!   But recently, one of my good friends Amelia, from Travels with Amelia, ventured out west!  Her thoughts on Disneyland were so great I just HAD to share them with you all!

"So here goes.
Disney World vs Disneyland or, MINE IS BETTER THAN YOURS.
This is a real life thing to the uninitiated. A battle, if you will. I was once very far on one side. Even to a point I was unreasonable. (Who? Me?)
Here's the truth. And people know I usually wont mince words. Going in for this round I was skeptical. And the planning and cost was NOT making me feel better about it.
Arriving at LAX and having that airport smack in the middle of the city w traffic whizzing by without Magical Express was making my heart sink a little.
Then we checked into The Grand Californian...WOW. Now that's a hotel! (nearly 3 times a night than an on property resort at Disney World)
Our room was pretty spacious and could easily have slept 5. They weren't stingy w towels and toiletries as I'm beginning to experience with the Disney World resorts.
So w a three hour time difference and a day of travel, we went to sleep very excited about our big day. The Diamond Celebration of Walt's baby.
As we walked out of the shelter of our hotel we were immediately in Downtown Disney. And they were playing Disney music, not a bunch of loud junk which I immediately loved. There it was! Disneyland on my left, California Adventure to my right. (did I mention there is a gate just for Grand Californian guests right into the park?)
As we walked in it's...the same. But...different. People aren't acting crazy. It's...we are waiting for rope drop together. Just hanging out. Outside the tiniest, sparkliest castle ever. Its so small in scale it feels...like I want it in my backyard. And people who really know me are now concerned someday it will be after that statement.
And what I will say now is this.
Disneyland will win the heart of any diehard, old school, Sundays with Walt on TV kid. IF YOU LET IT. The care to preserve what Walt built is so stunning I could not stop smiling. And of course, in the dark, I cried just a little during Pinocchio's Daring Adventure. How I remember watching that scared to death at my grandma's as a child. Fantasyland is a gem, with characters roaming about free as the wind with not a cast member in sight.
I'm not sure what my problem was on my first visit. I cant say. Maybe you need a visit to understand this isn't Disney World. Maybe that's the trick. And then just come again with an open heart.
California Adventure. Its Disney. Its fun. I enjoyed it the first time. And we did again. World of Color is so cool. And nothing compares to fireworks at Disney.
And here's my final word.
Wishes knocks your butt in the dirt Disneyland...and your Pirates of the Caribbean is the BOMB YO!
Hurrrrry Baaaaaack!"

I just loved her view point!   It makes me want to hurry up and visit Disneyland even sooner!  How about you?  Have you ever been?  What are your thoughts?

How to get the most for your money at the EPCOT FOOD & WINE FESTIVAL!!!!

The 206 Epcot Food and Wine Festival is starting in just a few weeks on September 14 and running through November 14!  This time of year is the perfect time for an adults getaway to Walt Disney World!!!   There are so many wonderful things to taste and drink around Epcot during the festival!   If you are a foodie or love good wine (OR BOTH) this is an absolute must do for you!  (If you are a Florida Resident or AP holder, there are some AMAZING deals going on right now for you FYI).   They have special booths all around the World Showcase showcasing special food and beverages from that country!  It really is amazing!   They even have countries not featured in the showcase that have special booths up.   Click HERE for a list of all the countries and what food and beverages they are showcasing this year.

I wanted to share a little tip with you to get the most bang for your buck at the Food & Wine Festival!  I have shared with you before, I am a big believer in the Disney Dining Plan!  Well, for this festival, I actually suggest you adding the QUICK SERVICE DINING PLAN!  This plan includes the following for each guest per night: Rapid Refill Resort mug, 1 snack, and 2 Quick Service meals.   Here is the deal, for each Quick Service Meal on your plan, you can exchange it for 3 snack credits at any of the booths at the countries, but ALL 3 MUST BE AT THAT ONE COUNTRY!

SO FOR EXAMPLE, you and your loved one go to the food wine.  You would each get 1 snack, and 2 quick service meals equaling 6 snack credits for a total of 7 credits each.  You can look at the menu and see what is offered where.   One of you could use your single credit at the Canada booth for the Cheese Soup served with a pretzel roll (FYI I have heard this is AMAZING!  Would be on the top of my list of foods to try!).   Canada only has 2 food options at that booth, so you want to be sure to use the singular one.   Then the other could go to the  Hawaii booth and get the Kalua Pork Slider with Sweet and Sour Dole Pineapple Chutney and Spicy Mayonnaise.  Hawaii also has only two food options. (BONUS TIP!  Whatever you use your singular snack credit for, exchange it for something that is on the higher price range when possible to get the biggest bang for your buck!)  Then, you could go to the Islands of the Caribbean Booth (NEW THIS YEAR!) and exchange your Quick Service Meal Credit for the
  • Mojo Pork with Black Beans, Cilantro Rice, and Pickled Red Onions
  • Quesito: Puff Pastry with Sweetened Cream Cheese and Guava Sauce
  • Jamaican Beef Patty
This booth has 4 food options.  I just picked the three that sounded best to me!  LOL.    The other person could then go over to THE CHEW Collective Booth (another new addition this year, from ABC Studios hit show, THE CHEW) and exchange their first quick service credit for:
  • Grilled Beef Skewer with Romaine, Apricots and Feta Cheese
  • Ricotta and Zucchini Ravioli with Rustic Tomato Sauce
  • Peanut Butter and White Chocolate Mousse with a Caramel Drizzle
You would still each have a quick service credit to trade for 3 more food tastings at two other countries!   If you really love that person, you would share!   That would mean between the 2 of you, you could be tasting 14 different selections per night you stay there!!   For the alcoholic beverages, you would have to pay as alcohol is not included in the dining plans, but that is still an amazing deal!!!!!

If you do not want to look over the entire menu by clicking HERE, here is a list that I would be the most excited about!

  • Buttered Chicken with Micro Cilantro and Naan Bread (Africa)
  • Lamington: Yellow Cake Dipped in Chocolate and Shredded Coconut (Australia)
  • Beer-braised Beef served with Smoked Gouda Mashed Potatoes (Belgium)
  • Canadian cheddar cheese soup served with a pretzel roll (Canada)

Disney Life Lessons: Finding Dory

Welcome to another edition of Disney Life Lessons!   This segment is all about how in every single Disney movie, there are a ton of life lessons to be learned (and a quick review of course).   Every single member of our family shares what they learn.  It's quickly becoming one of my favorite segments!

Finding Nemo was a very loved movie in our family, so we anxiously awaited for the sequel, Finding Dory, from the time it was announced!  It did not disappoint any of us!  I personally relate to Dory, because I am always forgetting everything I feel like!  It had a ton of funny parts, and a few sad parts too!  The animations of this movie truly amaze me at how realistic the water and the movement of the water look (do not forget to take a few minutes and really appreciate that!)  Although the movie was great, and we will be owning this one when it comes out, it did have some pretty tough story lines!  IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE, YOU MAY NOT WANT TO READ THE NEXT PARAGRAPH.

Dory lost her family because of her forgetfulness, meaning it was her fault.   Her parents however never gave up looking for her and in the end, found her.   Because of this, this movie may be very hard for kids who struggle with self doubt, abandonment issues, or who are in the foster system or have been adopted.  For more detail on this, I would recommend clicking HERE and/or HERE for some great articles on that.  If you think your kid(s) struggle with any of that, I would suggest watching it with him/her or setting aside time after alone to discuss it and how it made the child feel.

Let's move on to what life lessons my family walked away with from this movie!

TYLER (13 years):

  • If you set your mind to it, you can do it. (Dory found her way home)
  • Family will always love you
LILLIE (12 years):
  • If you have a disability, you can overcome it (she suffers from a pretty tough learning disability)
  • Never give up
  • Family is not just blood, family is who loves you and cares for you.
CHLOE (10 years):
  • Always believe that you can do it.
  • Family forgives.

SETH (10 years old):
  • Even if you have people tell you you aren't able to do something, do it anyways.
  • Never think that your family will forget you, family never forgets.
  • Family will always help you when you need help.

JEREMY:
There is always another way to accomplish something.
TAMARA:
It is OK to be angry, but it is not OK to use hurtful words when you are angry, those words can stick into peoples minds.

WHAT ARE SOME LIFE LESSONS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY LEARNED FROM FINDING DORY?
We would love to hear them in the comments!
