Disney Inspired Jewelry at Little Things by Laurie

I ran across this stunning Disney Inspired jewelry on Etsy at www.etsy.com/shop/LittleThingsByLaurie and I had to share this with you!  I already have a wish list of several more items I want to order!  Laurie Henderson, the owner is a huge Disney Fanatic and such a delightful person!  She is passionate about Disney and loves the original works of Walt Disney and it truly shows in her artwork!  She makes so many things from jewelry to wine charms to bookmarks.  Her prices are all super affordable too!  If there is a certain movie or character in mind, message her and she will help design the perfect piece for you!

Look how cute her packaging is!!!

HOW DID YOU GET INTO MAKING THIS BEAUTIFUL DISNEY JEWELRY?
I started making Disney jewelry because someone asked if my daughter’s artwork could be made into a necklace. We loved the process, look and had so much fun, that I decided to try more after many requests. I have a very severe vision problem, never thinking I could do something like this, so tedious and up close, but it’s actually helped me in many ways. I have one child in college and the other will be going next year and needed something to keep me busy being a stay at home mother since they were born, and help supplement our one income.

DO YOU HAND MAKE EVERYTHING?

I put together everything that is in my shop myself. Some of the images are from other vendors, but the majority are my daughter’s artwork, or my own. I take a lot of pride in each piece that I make and normally each one is made to order. I am a perfectionist and will do something 20 times before I get it right. My things are hopefully pieces that people can afford and have fun with. I realize some won’t last forever, but I do add a little care tips card that I hope will help in knowing how to protect their pieces

WHAT IS YOUR MOST POPULAR SELLING ITEM?

The most popular item I have is the Beauty and the Beast bangle, followed by Baymax and Butterfly that is my daughters drawing.

Baymax Necklace that Lillie LOVES!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ITEM TO MAKE AND WHY?

My favorite item to make is actually not Disney, but my little mouse logo that my daughter drew. This was not for my shop at first, but I loved him because he was “little”, and that it just fit so well with my theme. My other favorite is any Wizard of Oz item, I am a huge fan of the movie, as well as Disney.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU COME UP WITH NEW DESIGNS?

I try to come up with new things every week, although I am usually up most nights thinking about what’s next. I have so many ideas and things I am working on right now, many are not jewelry and will be in the shop later next year. I started out crafting and making miniatures, not doing jewelry, but it got so popular, so I will continue to do both.

DO YOU HAVE ANY FUN OR TOUCHING CUSTOMER STORIES YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH US?

I have the best conversations with my customers and have so many touching, fun and laugh out loud stories, that I am really considering writing a book about them. I can’t really pinpoint one, but so many have made me cry like a baby, or burst out laughing, that I am so grateful for the people I have met through Etsy. The best thing about doing this is when they write to tell me why they are purchasing an item. It makes making the item that much more special to me. This is why I continue doing this, due to all of the wonderful people I have met already. The comments and conversations keep me motivated.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU GET TO GO TO DISNEY?

I live close to Disneyland, and I try to get there as often as I can. It’s my home away from home, where my problems always seem to disappear. It's where I can go back in time to relive the memories of the past, and never grow up!

WHAT IS THE ONE THING YOU HAVE TO DO EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU VISIT DISNEY?

The one thing I have to on every trip to Disneyland is ride Small World.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE DISNEY MEMORY EVER?

My favorite memory of Disneyland is that when I was about 7, I sang in the International Children’s Choir, that opened It’s a Small World. I was there that day with Walt Disney and we were the first boats in the ride. We also marched in the Christmas parade every night for two weeks the year Small World opened, with the tall dolls and got to stay backstage for hours having fun with the characters and performers. I was so little, it is kind of a blur to me, but it’s fun to say I was there, so that ride and the bracelet I make, have lots of meaning to me. Other memories are that my father and grandfather were very good friends with Disney Legend Bill Evans, who was the head horticulturalist at Disneyland. My father sold Disneyland all of their landscape equipment at the time, as well as the materials for the upkeep of their plants and grass. My grandfather actually worked with him to build Disney World when they had to move all of the trees. Bill flew him to Florida to consult with him.

WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE DISNEY CHARACTER AND WHY?

My favorite Disney character is Snow White. Ever since I was very little, I used to tell my mother that I would like to be Snow White for one day at Disneyland. I still say that, just one day, “I’m wishing?” I am very much like Snow, taking care of everyone.
