Drinking on a Disney Cruise and How to SAVE MONEY while doing so!

One of my favorite things about going on a Disney Cruise, is the environment.  Yes, it involves all of the Disney magic that we all cherish so much, but it tends to attract a certain crowd of people.   I find this is one of the things that makes the Disney Cruise Line stand out!   While on some other cruise lines, you tend to attract a party type atmosphere with a lot of drinking and drunken spectacles, you just dont see that on these ships typically.   Last year, I went on my first Disney Cruise for my honeymoon, and we totally utilized most of the adult only areas and were hardly around kids (SERIOUSLY!) and yet we never really witnessed any of this!  I have heard stories of other cruise lines with people just being overly drunk, hairy chest contests, wet shirt contests with a twist, and just all kinds of craziness, that I myself, dont care to be around.   That being said, as an adult, it is still nice to indulge in some drinking on your cruise!   And surprisingly enough, Disney Cruise Line offers a lot of perks for this too!!!!!!!!!!!

DRINK OF THE DAY
This was by far my favorite part of drinking on the DCL (Disney Cruise Line)!    Every morning, you will get your Navigator (a newsletter with all the happenings of the days).   It is not super noticeable (at least I didn't think it was), but listed on there is a DRINK OF THE DAY every day!!!    Those drinks will ONLY cost you $4.75 plus tax and gratuity which comes to about $5.50!  I dont know about you, but I cant get a cocktail for that price on the mainland!
Some examples of these are:
  • Bahama Mama
  • Bay Breeze
  • Caribbean Dream
  • Castaway Cay Breeze
  • Cool Breeze
  • High Tide
  • Key Lime Margarita
  • Mai Tai
  • Malibu Bay Breeze
  • Orange Cruiser
  • Oran-gita
  • Paradise Cocktail
  • Paradise Punch
  • Pineapple Mojito
  • Rum Runner
  • Stinger
  • Stingray
  • Sunken Treasure
  • Yellow Bird

A lot of times the drink of the day will depend on where you are on your cruising journey!  If you don't see it in the navigator, some of the bars will have signs out, but not all of them.   Even if you do not see it posted, ask for the drink of the day!    It is a well kept secret many people do not even realize!   And they offer non-alcoholic versions for a cheaper price!

TWO FOR ONE DRINK SPECIALS
There is always a happy hour on the DCL!    When you are lounging on the ship, you will see servers coming around to take your drink order.  They sometimes will offer you a 2 for 1 special, but I am told if they do not, JUST ASK!   This two will only be for a set drink each day.  But I know people who got two mai tais for just $5.50!  This same special is often available on Castaway Cay too, but not until later in the afternoon.  Usually, there it is for a variety of drinks.  I have heard the Pina Colada is amazing there!

THE BEER MUG
If you love beer, there is a deal for you too!  For $16.95 you can buy a 22 oz DCL beer mug.  For the duration of the trip, you can refill it for the price of a 16oz.   The mug is pretty heavy, so the bars will give you a token when you are done and you can turn the token in next time you are ready for another and exchange it for a mug full again, then at the end of the cruise, you can turn the token in for a clean mug to take home!  Various draft beer is available at various locations.

WINE AND DINE PACKAGE
At the beginning of your cruise, you have the opportunity to purchase a wine package at your dinner.   They offer various package with a savings of up to 25%!   Make sure you check this out if you are one that likes to have a glass of wine with dinner!

BYOB!   Or wine or champagne!
The perk that most guest are familiar with is DCL's Alcohol policy.   They allow guests 21 years of age and up to bring up to 2 bottles (no larger than 750ml) of wine or champagne or 6 bottles of beer (no larger than 12 ounces) on board on the beginning of the voyage and at each port!   It must be brought on as carry on, not packed in your checked baggage.  And be sure to pack your own wine opener, because if you don't, there will be a $25 corking fee per bottle!  You can see their full policy by clicking HERE

SKYLINE PASSPORT
Unfortunately, this perk is ONLY available for guests sailing on the Disney FANTASY.
On that ship, they have an amazing bar called SKYLINE!   There you can purchase a Skyline Passport Card that offers you 7 different hand crafted martinis for $59.  Each martini is themed to the seven different rotating skylines you will see in that bar!  If you break down the price per martini, I am told it is like getting one free!
